The Oakland Raiders are looking to make a splash this offseason, and are reportedly pursuing free agent running back DeMarco Murray.

DeMarco Murray is one of the most popular free agent names on the market this offseason, and there are quite a few teams that have already shown interest. One new team to add to the list is the Oakland Raiders, who are looking to make a big splash in free agency this offseason.

It would be very interesting to see him in Oakland, especially after Derek Carr’s impressive showing in his rookie season last year. The Raiders are looking to build around Carr as their franchise quarterback of the future, and adding a superstar running back like Murray would make a lot of sense. He would take a lot of pressure off of Carr, and would improve one of the biggest offensive needs of the Raiders.

At 27 years of age, Murray still should have plenty of good football left to play. He has dealt with injuries issues throughout the majority of his career, but that wasn’t the case during the 2014 season.

Murray ended up rushing for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns on 392 carries, which is an impressive number to say the least. Dallas has wanted to keep Murray, but they might see the price driven out of their range. Oakland has plenty of money to spend, and is more than likely willing to spend a good chunk of it on Murray if they need to.

Oakland was ranked last in the NFL in rushing yards per game last season, averaging just 77.5 yards per game.

That number will never cut it in the NFL, and Murray would take that average much higher. Oakland doesn’t have a great offensive line like he was used to with the Cowboys, but it would give him a chance to prove that he wasn’t a product of the Cowboys’ system.

All of that being said, the Raiders are a very intriguing possibility for Murray. He is looking to get paid in a big way this offseason, and Oakland is a good team to look at for that. The Raiders are trying to make moves to get themselves back into postseason contention, and signing Murray would be a massive step in the right direction.

Free agency is officially open, and you can expect to hear plenty more rumors surrounding Murray until he decides where he will be playing next.
