The NFL Draft is the next big event in the football offseason, and the New York Jets might be looking at a rookie running back to fill their need.
The New York Jets are looking to rebound from their dismal season in 2014, and that means addressing some offensive needs that the team has. New head coach Todd Bowles is getting some massive defensive help with Darrelle Revis, Buster Skrine and possibly Antonio Cromarite.
But the offense needs help, and the addition of Brandon Marshall is not going to fix everything all on his own. There is a massive need for help at running back, and with free agents drying up, the Jets could look to the NFL Draft next month for a long term fix.
According to NFL draft insider Tony Pauline, the New York Jets are showing an interest in Melvin Gordon from Wisconsin .
Of course, there’ s such a thing called due diligence, and it’s possible that the Jets are just working out Gordon to get numbers on him to compare to backs they want. But there’s need for running back in New York and it’s a need that could be filled by Gordon.
He’s a Heisman Trophy finalist and a legend in college football — which means he’d come to New York with the storylines intact. But Can Gordon translate his success to the next level and an he do it in the media jungle of New York?
Gordon is an interesting option for Jets, as there have been successes with young rushers in recent years with Eddie Lacy and even guys like Tre Mason and Jerrick McKinnon have shown flashes. It’s hard to be a running back in the NFL at the moment, but the Jets possibly eyeing Melvin Gordon is very interesting.
