The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Michael Johnson to a fat free agent contract in 2014, and three months into 2015 they have released him.

There have been bad NFL contracts handed out in recent years, and teams are no longer sitting on those deals if they feel they can do better. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the latest example of that, as they’ve cut bait on three of their four biggest free agent signings from 2014 in a move that makes last season a total wash.

Josh McCown and Anthony Collins are both gone, and now Michael Johnson has been cut loose despite bing a prized signing last season.

According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not only cutting Michael Johnson but are paying $7 million to do so.

This just highlights the utter mess that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at the moment as they have no quarterback, no sense of future and no clue. That’s not to suggest that the Buccaneers don’t know what they’re doing — it just doesn’t seem like good decisions have been made up to this point.

Cap space has been cleared and 2015 is looking to be another wash, but they have the No. 1 pick and there is hope that things will turn around in the near future.
