Trent Cole confused by Chip Kelly, Philadelphia Eagles
Veteran linebacker Trent Cole was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week and is still confused and not happy about it.
Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Trent Cole was released by the team last week after spending his first ten years in the NFL with the team. Since then, the veteran linebacker signed with the Indianapolis Colts but he’s still pretty pissed at Chip Kelly.
Oof.
Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles have been the most active team during the NFL offseason so far and have made some good moves, but also some questionable ones. After releasing Trent Cole last Tuesday, the Eagles made a trade to send their best player, running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for former Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso.

The Eagles also officially signed former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Byron Maxwell Tuesday, a position that needed a lot of help on the Eagles roster. Phildelphia then traded quarterback Nick Foles to St. Louis for quarterback Sam Bradford. Finally on Wednesday, the Eagles filled their running back hole with former San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews.
As if your head isn’t spinning enough, Philadelphia has emerged as the favorite to land free agent Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, who led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,845 yards and 13 TDs.
Trent Cole seems to be right that Chip Kelly is giving away some things that worked with Philadelphia’s 10-6 team last season, but he’s also making key additions, specifically Byron Maxwell. There’s a lot of questions with Sam Bradford and how injury prone he still is after tearing his ACL in 2013 and 2014.
We’ll see if the Eagles end up signing Murray to a team that already has Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles.
