Fantasy Impact: Frank Gore Signs With Colts

facebooktwitterreddit

Frank Gore signed with the Indianapolis Colts for 3 years and $12 million. Gore spent 10 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, rushing for a grand total of 11,073 yards and 64 TDs. He had 8 seasons with over 1,000 yards rushing during his time with the 49ers. The Colts desperately needed a dependable workhorse running back, and they got that with Gore. During the 2013 season, the Colts traded away their 2014 1st round pick for running back Trent Richardson. Richardson turned out to be a bust, and the Colts were left looking for a replacement. After feeling snake bitten by trading for Trent Richardson, the Colts went after a reliable running back in free agency. Gore is as reliable as any running back in the league being one of the few 3-down running backs around.

Gore’s fantasy value is going to skyrocket because Indianapolis was one of the most anticipated landing spots for running backs this offseason due to their high powered passing offense, and the potential for Gore to get extra receptions out of the backfield. The Colts were 3rd in the league in total offense last season, and they ranked 22nd in rushing yards last year. Quarterback Andrew Luck is very good at keeping the chains moving, so Gore will get a lot of opportunities around the goal line. Gore is going to be very valuable in redraft leagues because he has a grand opportunity. In dynasty, his value is on the rise as well. He is more valuable to a team that is built to win now than a team that is rebuilding. If you are rebuilding, there is a good possibility that you could sell Gore for a late 1st round pick to a contender.

Trent Richardson/Dan Herron RB Indianapolis Colts

The futures of both these running backs are a little dimmer with the Gore signing. No one expected Herron to be the feature back in Indy. The Gore signing eliminates all hopes that he will be their 3-down back next season. He will have value as a handcuff to Gore next season. Richardson might get cut if he doesn’t improve and show signs of life during training camp. His value is next to nothing in fantasy, but he is worth a flier at the end of your bench just in case he figures it out and becomes fantasy relevant again.
