Adrian Peterson’s top choice is Cardinals

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says that his top choice, should he end up going somewhere else, is the Arizona Cardinals.

Currently, Adrian Peterson is still with the Vikings, but many believe that may not last long and that Peterson will soon formally ask for a trade. If that happens, the Cardinals are reportedly near the top of his list for possible landing spots after life in Minnesota. According to a story by Arizona Sports, the Cardinals aren’t likely to turn Peterson down, should that happen.

One writer who has been closely following the Peterson drama is Charles Robinson for Yahoo! Sports. He discussed the situation on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Thursday. He said that Peterson met with the Vikings ownership earlier in the week and that the running back still isn’t happy with what’s happened in Minnesota so far. However, he doesn’t hold the cards and the only way he can, is to refuse to report to the Vikings.

The only way for him to get leverage is to let the Vikings know that he doesn’t intend to report, thus forfeiting his $13 million and possibly a $250,000 workout bonus. That would make him obviously serious about his desire to move on from the team. If he doesn’t do this, it’s entirely possible that the Vikings aren’t going to be interested in trading a guy who has 10,190 yards and 86 touchdowns since being drafted in 2007.  Peterson is 29 and one of the best running backs in the NFL and the Vikings know that.

As for the Cardinals, if they think there’s any way they can help the Vikings decide to part with Peterson, then the best thing for them to do would be to clear up space and find out what they can offer Minnesota, possibly with draft picks.

The other wrinkle is that the Cowboys just lost their running back in DeMarco Murray and that could move them up the list. The main problem there is that they lost Murray because they didn’t want to pay him. That might not win them any points with Peterson or the Vikings in a potential trade situation.
