Detroit Tigers rookie catcher James McCann hit a bird with a foul ball that came off his bat.
In a Friday afternoon spring training game between the Atlanta Braves and the Detroit Tigers, Detroit rookie catcher James McCann hit a foul ball that unfortunately destroyed a bird.
Here’s the video courtesy of WDIV Local 4 Detroit:
McCann’s foul ball went backwards just over the netting and took out a bird that was simply just resting, trying to have a good time watching the game he loves. This poor bird now joins the bird that Randy Johnson hit with a 99 mph fast ball in 2001 as some off the most famous birds in baseball history.
The Detroit Tigers went on to beat the Braves 12-2 in the game and catcher James McCann finished 1-for-2. Not 1-for-2 in birds (in which he is batting 1.000) but in hits.
Hopefully the fans weren’t too upset by the bird feathers falling all over them, you can hear the reaction well in the video. Hopefully that bird enjoyed it’s last major league baseball game before it was brought to an abrupt ending.
