If you’ve ever seen Billy Madison you’re familiar with the phrase “O’Doyel rules”. In the classic comedy Adam Sandler film, the O’Doyel family eventually are all driving together when their van’s tire finds a banana which sends them over a cliff and to their demise.
Gregg Doyel of the Indy Star is not as obnoxious as the O’Doyels, nor is he a fictional character but a real life being, who had a similar, but thankfully far less ironically tragic fate Friday.
Sitting courtside at Friday’s Big Ten quarterfinal at the United Center in Chicago between Purdue and Penn State, Doyel was taking in the action for his job. That’s when Purdue’s Raphael Davis came crashing his way.
Doyel could not get out of the way. Luckily, he was fine and was able to laugh (and tweet) about it shortly after.

Davis, the junior guard who scored 13 points in the game, later joked that Doyel took a block, rather than a charge.
Purdue went on to win the game 64-59 over Penn State to advance to Saturday’s semifinals against the No. 6 team in the country, the Wisconsin Badgers.
