Premier League Power Ranking: 5 teams that can be relegated

1 of 6

Power ranking the teams fighting to avoid relegation in the Premier League.

This season’s Premier League hasn’t been as exciting as last year, at least at the top of the table. High flying Chelsea seem all but certain to win the title due to the fact that they’re five points clear with a game in hand. In addition to Chelsea’s point advantage, 2nd place Man City don’t seem to have what it takes to mount a serious run over the remaining ten games so it seems that this will be the London club’s year.

More from Premier League

Despite the apparent lack of competition at the higher end of the table, the league is still going to be intriguing right up until the end. That is of course thanks to yet another intense battle at the bottom to stay in the league.

For those of you that are new to soccer or unfamiliar with the relegation system, allow me to briefly explain. Unlike American sports, teams that finish in last place are not rewarded with a high draft pick. Instead, the bottom three teams in the standing are demoted to the league below the Premier League, and the top three teams from that league move up to replace them. If it were baseball, the Houston Astros would have basically been demoted to Triple A ball.

You could argue that up to seven teams are in a position to lose their Premier League status, but in my opinion only five of those bottom seven actually have a realistic chance of going down. I will be looking at each team’s form, their position in the table and their remaining fixtures in order to give you a better idea of who will be playing championship football next season.
