Detroit Lions defensive tackle Haloti Ngata thinks running back Ray Rice would be a good addition to the team.

Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice still hasn’t found a new home in the NFL, but not everyone has given up on him just yet. Rice’s former teammate Haloti Ngata was traded to the Detroit Lions.

The Lions are looking for a new running back after Reggie Bush was released on Wednesday, and Ngata had a particular guy in mind.

“I’ve never hung out with him off-field, but he’s a great guy,” Ngata said of Rice. “He’s a great guy on the field, in the locker room. He’s a great community guy. He does a lot for the community, and so of course I think he would be a great addition to this team. I love playing with him, I trusted him. You feel bad for his situation. You just hope nothing but the best for him.”

You have to think as talented as Rice is, the stigma that comes with him might not have died off enough for the Lions to make a move. Waiting till later in the offseason might be a better bet for any team interested in Rice.

The longer he sits on the sidelines without a team the more the price tag probably drops, which is another reason a team desperate for a running back might want to wait before giving Rice a shot.
