Kentucky is going to land the No. 1 overall seed in March Madness regardless of if they lose in the SEC tournament title game.

We are just hours away from hearing who will be dancing this year in the NCAA Tournament, otherwise known as March Madness. But there is one mystery that has already been solved — not that it was much of a mystery anyways.

More from March Madness

Kentucky has been the best team in basketball all season long and has yet to lose a game, and for that they’re going to be named the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

According to the NCAA’s Dan Gavitt, no matter if Kentucky wins the SEC tournament, they will be the No. 1 overall seed in the March Madness tournament.

"“Regardless of tomorrow’s outcome of the SEC championship game, Kentucky will be the #1 overall seed in the field”"

This isn’t that big of a surprise though, as Kentucky is the best team in college basketball this season, as you don’t go through a year without losing a game without getting some serious credit. That’s what this No. 1 overall seed means for Kentucky and it’s fitting.

But it also paints the target on their back in glow-in-the-dark paint, as everyone can see it night and day. Kentucky hasn’t lost a game all season long, but the team can’t afford to have that loss come in the tournament. If they want to make it through the year undefeated, then they need to make it through March Madness despite having a target everyone wants to hit.
