Thaddeus Young isn’t thinking about free agency
Thaddeus Young, forward for the Brooklyn Nets, says that he isn’t thinking about free agency.
After being traded to the Brooklyn Nets recently, Thaddeus Young has a player option coming up for the 2015-2016 season. The option that would land him nearly 10 million dollars is something Young is seeing himself willing to exercise.
However, he could choose to have his time in Brooklyn be quite short-lived, as the option allows his to declare himself a free agent. But Young says that he isn’t thinking about free agency, despite the Nets performance that is well below league expectations this season.
Even though Young is averaging 13.0 points per game, he is receiving less playing time with his new team than he has seen in years past with the Philadelphia 76ers. But Thad is completely happy with where he is at with the Nets and is looking forward to his future with the team.

And apparently the Nets are ready to make Young a main component of their future.
“It means a lot,” Young said in a statement to Mike Mazzeo about the Nets wanting Young to be part of their organization in the future. “It means that I’m definitely a player that has come into his own and being able to go out there and do a lot of things to help my team win basketball games. Sometimes I can go out there and be a game-changer with the energy I bring to the table.”
Since the departure of Kevin Garnett in the trade that sent young to Brooklyn and Garnett back home to Minnesota, the Nets might as well officially declare themselves in the rebuilding phase. Having a veteran role player on the team will be huge in the future. Especially one who still has 5-10 good years left in the NBA.
The Nets have plenty to be excited about in the years to come. They are finally starting to see some of those big contracts they acquired in 2013 that didn’t really work out disappear. Bringing in young talent like Young will be instrumental for the Nets future, and they are doing just that.
