For the last three seasons the Milwaukee Brewers have been stuck in mediocrity. Can 2015 finally be that breakthrough season for the Brew Crew?

Bernie the Brewer is one of the more lovable mascots in all of baseball. One of the reasons is due to the Milwaukee Brewers home field tradition that is executed after each home run.

Bernie hangs in his own personal dugout in left field, and each time Brewers announcer Bob Uecker calls a home run at Miller Park, this happens:

Not only does Bernie make this team so lovable, but the old-school Brewers logo you see on so many baseball caps is just another reason to fall in love with the Brew Crew.

Unfortunately for real Brewers fans, the past three years haven’t been so lovable as their home team is stuck in a state of mediocrity. Over the last three combined seasons the Brewers have compiled a 239-247 record – including a very average 82-20 record last season.

Folks, it doesn’t get much mediocre than that.

Not since 2011 has the team put a dent in the NL Central. That year saw Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder put together monster seasons en route to the NL Central crown with 96 wins. Only the Philadelphia Phillies with 102 wins could claim to have a better club in the league.

While much has changed with the roster since then, everything remains the same surrounding the way they do business. Ranking 20th in the majors with a salary a little over $90 million, general manager Doug Melvin can afford zero mistakes, via Spotrac. Therefore, he does little by way of bringing in free agent talent.

The Brewers strategy will always remain to develop from within and rely on home grown talent.

The 2015 offseason has once again reflected that very sentiment.
