3 Keys for Success

  1. The starting staff must step up
  2. Braun needs to be Braun
  3. Can Scooter Gennett take that next step?

Not only does the Brew Crew reflect a very mediocre record over the past three seasons, 239-247, but where they ranked in 2014 in overall runs produced and allowed is downright scary.

Ranking 15th in the Majors with 650 runs scored and 14th with 657 runs allowed makes us think the 2014 Milwaukee Brewers could be the most average ball-club of all time.

When judging things on paper, as all baseball heads do during the spring, it seems the Brewers real potential lies in the lineup. If Braun, Segura and Lind produce they way they once have, then Roenicke could feel very comfortable with his lineup.

Where paper is very questionable, like many teams across the land, is in the rotation.

Kyle Lohse presents a steady guy at the top of the rotation, but a guy like Matt Garza or Wily Peralta is essential to their success in 2015.

It won’t matter though if Ryan Braun doesn’t regain his form from a few years ago. For clubs to rise to elite status and challenge teams like the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates for the division crown, studs need to be studs.

One interesting guy to keep an eye on during the spring is young second baseman Scooter Gennett.

First of all, his name is Scooter. That alone makes the guy worthy of an intense discussion. Secondly, he picked up the pace for the struggling Segura a season ago.

Hitting .289 with nine homeruns, 54 runs batted in only 137 games is very solid for a middle infielder. He showed a lot of progress at the plate in the discipline and patience department. Gennett taking that next step in the two-hole of the lineup in 2015 could be money in the bank for this lineup – a perfect spot right in between Carlos Gomez and Braun.
