Marcus Mariota quite frankly isn’t all that concerned with whether or not he goes No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft

For a good amount of time, especially towards the end of the college football season last year, there were many who thought that former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota was the surefire No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, as time has passed now, the consensus seems to be that another Heisman winner, Jameis Winston, will be getting that distinction instead.

No matter the case, though, it doesn’t seem as if Mariota is too concerned with it.

In an interview with the official site of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that holds that top pick and is in need of a signal caller, Mariota specifically noted that while he wouldn’t mind playing for the Bucs, it’s really not all that important to him whether or not he goes with that first selection.

“Being the first pick, to me it’s not a huge thing,” Mariota said, via the team’s website. “I’d love to play for the Bucs. With that being said, if you find the team that wants you, that’s going to be the right team. I look forward to marketing myself and finding that team.”

With concerns that he might not translate all that well to the next level, plus what some considered a shaky Pro Day, Mariota has nearly fallen out of contention for that No. 1 overall slot. However, no one can doubt the athletic ability this young man possesses, so he has the tools to eventually prove some people wrong.
