We are going to take a look at Breshad Perriman, a wide receiver from University of Central Florida. Perriman has some NFL blood lines. His father, Brett Perriman, played 10 seasons in the NFL, spending 6 of those seasons with the Detroit Lions. Perriman was also paired up with quarterback Blake Bortles who was a 1st round pick during last year’s NFL draft.

Perriman has the prototypical size that you want in a wide receiver, at 6’2 and 212 lbs, Perriman has the size to handle himself against defensive backs during press coverage. Perriman didn’t work out at the combine due to a minor injury, so we don’t have the raw data to compare his athleticism to other wide receivers in his draft class and in the NFL. We will get a good indicator of his athletic profile on March 25th during his prod day.

Film Review

The first thing you recognize while watching Perriman’s tape is that his quarterback (Justin Holman) isn’t very good. Holman misses Perriman on a lot of deep balls, and Perriman has to make adjustments during the catch to make up for Holman’s inaccuracy. Perriman is a very strong receiver. He is very good at boxing out defenders while the ball is in the air. He is very good at ceiling the defender away from the ball. Perriman is very good at catching the ball in traffic. He has the ability to make contested catches look effortless. There’s a lot of scouting reports saying that he has issues with drops, but the quarterback play that he had to work with was so bad that a lot of the throws that came his way was off the mark making them uncatchable. Like most young prospects, Perriman isn’t the smoothest route runner; he has bad habits with rounding out routes, and difficulties getting out of some of his breaks. Very few wide receivers are polished route runners, so I wouldn’t hold that against him. It takes most young wide receivers a few years before they can hone in on their craft. The most impressive thing about Perriman’s play is that he’s aggressive, he attacks the ball in the air while it’s coming to him, making it difficult to defend him. He has a knack for boxing out DBs and out muscling them to get to the football.

Player Value

There’s a very good chance that Perriman could be drafted in the back half of the first round in the NFL draft. He is for sure going to be drafted in the top 100. His value is in a dynasty league is going to depend on where he lands. If he lands to good situation, like New Orleans, then he could be a late 1st round pick in rookie drafts. With his talent alone he shouldn’t fall any further than the mid 2nd round of your rookie draft. If you have a late first round pick and you are in need of a receiver I would suggest looking into Perriman, because he is very talented with elite wide receiver upside.
