March Madness: No. 14 UAB upsets No. 3 Iowa State in NCAA Tournament

Iowa State was the first upset victim in the 2015 the NCAA Tournament after the UAB Blazers knocked them out.


That sound you hear is the celebration from UAB fans after the No. 14 Blazers upset the No. 3 Iowa State Cyclones in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to remind us all why this time of year is March Madness.

It has been a trying year for UAB athletics after the university dropped the football program this winter, but UAB fans have plenty of reasons to celebrate today with the 60-59 victory over the favored Cyclones who won the Big 12 conference tournament.

UAB was led by William lee who had 14 point and 12 rebounds and guard Robert Brown who scored a game-high 21 points on 7-19 shooting to pull off the one-point upset.

Iowa State had a great look at tying the game in the closing seconds but the three-point try bounced off the rim and was tipped in for the game’s final score and the first upset of the tourney.

Georges Niang was in foul trouble early and didn’t have the game he would have liked, finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds.

UAB advances to the third round from Louisville, KY. where they will play the winner of SMU and UCLA on Saturday.
