Well, that didn’t take long. Ravens running back Bernard Pierce has been claimed off waivers by the Jaguars on Thursday, the day after being cut, according to the Jaguar’s official Twitter account. Pierce was cut on Wednesday by the Ravens after he was arrested for a DUI, but many expected the Ravens to part ways with him anyway at some point during the offseason. He didn’t have a good campaign last year or the year before, and the Ravens made the decision to go with Justin Forsett.

Pierce will be joining the Jaguars current running backs in Denard Robinson and Tony Gerhart. Robinson had 526 rushing yards last year to lead the team, while Gerhart only had 326 yards on 101 attempts. Pierce hasn’t been much better than either back with the Ravens of late. He had 366 yards last year and the year before, 436. His average was 3.7 yards per carry, while fellow back Justin Forsett had 5.4 on average.

When Pierce was pulled over for speeding near Interstate 695 in Baltimore County, he reportedly told police he had “three shots of Jack”, according to Pro Football Talk.

When he was en route the police station after failing sobriety tests, he predicted his own release, telling police the Ravens would cut him the next day. Documents also stated that Pierce passed out on a bench and had to be shaken to wake up.

If Pierce is convicted on his DUI charge, he could face a two-game suspension in line with the NFL‘s new drug policy that was approved last year.

The Jaguars haven’t made any other statement on the acquisition of Pierce, other than announcing it on their official Twitter account. Pierce himself tweeted that “God works in mysterious ways”, after the acquisition.
