Clayton Kershaw gets hit in the face by line drive (Video)
During a spring training game on Friday, Clayton Kershaw got hit in the face by a line drive shot up the middle.
Spring training is the last time you want your players to get hurt. It is intended for everyone to get loose and shake the dust off a bit before opening day hits.
But as the LA Dodgers took on the Oakland Athletics on Friday afternoon, a potential tragedy struck as Clayton Kershaw got hit in the face by a screaming line drive up the middle.
Definitely a scary moment for Kershaw, whose 21-3 record and 1.77 ERA were one of the main reasons why the Dodgers made the playoffs. Fortunately, he ended up shaking it off and finished the game. It didn’t seem to effect his pitching too much as he retired seven more batters before coming out of the game.
Kershaw, whose 2.48 career ERA is the best among active players, is looking to really keep the ball rolling. His 21 wins and three losses were the best of his career last season, and since his rookie year he has not posted an ERA that has been 3.0 or over.

The Dodgers will need him this season as well if they plan on getting out of the NLDS. They tried to take down the Cardinals last year, but ended up losing 3-1, starting their offseason a bit early. Kershaw ended up getting the loss in game one of this series as he took a shelling from the Cardinal’s offense in the seventh inning. If he plans on coming back from this performance and contribute like he is capable of, he is going to need to be healthy for most of the season.
Thankfully, Kershaw is alright after that scary moment in spring training. No one wants to see the three time Cy Young winner go down with an injury before his season even begins. So Dodgers fans, you can breath again. Kershaw will be your ace on opening day.
