Darren Sharper reaches plea deal in rape case

Darren Sharper entered a plea deal in two of the four rape cases he was charged with on Friday.


Former NFL defensive back Darren Sharper reached a plea deal for his rape case in Los Angeles and New Orleans, according to The New Orleans Advocate.

Sharper is charged with drugging and raping women in four states with pending charges in Arizona and Las Vegas, NV. and the Advocate reports the plea deal is part of a “global plea deal” that will encompass all four rape charges.

“An agreement has been reached with Darren Sharper and his lawyers to resolve his state charges in Louisiana,” said Chris Bowman, a spokesman for Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro.

Sharper has been in a Los Angeles jail since Jan. 17 of last year. He has been accused of using Ambien, Xanax and Valium to drug and rape women. His case in New Orleans alleges Sharper and an accomplice by the name of Brandon Licciardi who distributed the drugs for a four-year period with the intent of raping women.

The 39-year-old Sharper is also charged with aggravated rape in the state along with Erik Nunez, 27, which carries a mandatory life sentence if convicted.

Sharper played 14 years in the NFL after playing collegiately at William & Mary. He played the first eight years of his career with the Green Bay Packers where he made the first of five Pro Bowl appearances. Sharper later went on to play four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and the last two seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints.

He led the NFL with nine interceptions in his first season with the Saints when they won the Super Bowl.
