The Tom Izzo led Spartans are just a 7th seed in this tournament, and a popular choice to make a deep run into the later rounds. Despite their low seeding which seemingly has placed low expectations on the team, it is Izzo’s reputation in the tournament that has them as a trendy pick.
That brings pressure to the Spartans.
“It’s not just about March to me, it’s about the process to get to March,” Izzo said, via ESPN. “But when we get close to March, I think every living alum thinks March is the time when we excel, and I think in a way it presents a little pressure. But I think it’s one of the rare times it’s really, really good pressure.”
The Bulldogs are an even lower 10th seed in the tournament, and a real threat to the Spartans in the round of 64. Heading into Friday, the Spartans are the favorites by six points.
