The New York Jets will hold a private workout for Oregon Ducks and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Could Marcus Mariota be the answer to the New York Jets lingering concerns at quarterback? He just may be if he excels in his private workout with the team on March 28.

The Jets hold the No. 6 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and Mariota could be available when they’re on the clock if the Tennessee Titans or whoever is picking second choose to pass on the Oregon Ducks quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy and led Oregon to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game last season.

Geno Smith is the incumbent at quarterback and leaves a lot to be desired at the position after two shaky seasons since the team drafted him in the second round out of West Virginia.

Jets first-year head coach Todd Bowles isn’t tied to Smith and could be looking to bring in his own guy at the game’s most important position and according to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini, Bowles will be attending the workout.

The Jets were one of the more active teams in free agency and made one of, if not the best, signing in bringing All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis back to Gang Green and have answered a number of their questions, but quarterback remains a question. If they draft Mariota and he turns out to be the real deal, they would have closed the gap on the New England Patriots for the AFC East title.

Do you think the Jets should draft Mariota? Do you think they should trade up to No. 2 to make sure they get Mariota and give the Tennessee Titans their first round pick this year and some additional draft pick compensation? Would that be too rich of a price to pay for a quarterback who had a less-than-stellar pro day and has concerns about his ability to anticipate throws after playing in Oregon’s wide-open passing game?
