The Seattle Seahawks and quarterback Russell Wilson are reportedly really close to a new deal that could be groundbreaking.

Most of the NFL is closely watching to see what the Seattle Seahawks end up doing with quarterback Russell Wilson’s new contract. Reports have painted the negotiations for the new deal as unique, even saying that it could be a fully guaranteed contract, according to ESPN’s Seahawks reporter Terry Blount.

Blount was on 710 ESPN Seattle on Friday to talk to Brock and Salk, and he said that the two sides are on the verge of a unique extension. He added that he’s been told that Wilson and the Seahawks are very, very close and just need to tie up a few loose ends before making it official. Blount further added that when it comes out, it’s likely to be “bigger, crazier and different” from any other contract out there.

As previously mentioned, there’s been plenty of healthy speculation that Wilson might get a fully guaranteed contract or one that contains way more guaranteed money than most contracts. This is significant, because, in the end, most football players care far more about guaranteed money than any other contract details.

Wilson could be guaranteed $15 million a year, instead of giving him $20 million that is not guaranteed.

Wilson is entering the final year of his rookie contract and would have made just $1 million. In only three pro seasons, Wilson has already been to the Super Bowl twice, won one of them, gone to the Pro Bowl twice and tied Peyton Manning’s 1998 record for most touchdown passes by a rookie quarterback. He also became the first rookie quarterback in league history to lead his team to a perfect record at home and has made the playoffs in every season he’s started.

Wilson has played in 48 games between regular season and postseason and threw for 9,950 yards and 72 touchdowns. He has also racked up 1,877 rushing yards and 11 more scores on the ground.

The Seahawks already have most of their unique defense locked up and a new deal for Beast Mode Marshawn Lynch, plus a big new passing threat in Jimmy Graham, all that’s left is to lock up their quarterback.
