The Buffalo Bills will run the ball 50 times a game if they can according to new head coach Rex Ryan.

The Buffalo Bills are filled with a lot of optimism this offseason. Not only do they have a new head coach in Rex Ryan, a man who took the New York Jets to two AFC Championship games, but a new stud running back.

The Bills shockingly pulled off a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles that netted them running back LeSean McCoy, a player who has led the league in rushing relatively recently.

The one glaring hole in the Bills offense is the quarterback position, with questions marks surrounding E.J. Manuel and Kyle Orton electing to retire. It looks like the Bills and new head coach Rex Ryan aren’t too worried about it, because they plan on pounding the ball.

“We prefer to ground and pound it, we’re going to run it 50 times if we can on you,” Ryan said on WGR 550-AM in Buffalo, via the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

The issue here is that the Bills of course spent a top draft pick on Sammy Watkins last year, and his talents would be going to waste with a run oriented team. There is still the possibility that the Bills draft a quarterback, they might not be able to get Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota in the first round but if Bryce Petty slips to the third round he could be an interesting pick up.

If the plan is to stick with Manuel, pounding the football is a good way to free up receivers by loading the box. They did sign tight end Charles Clay to an offer sheet, another weapon to help Manuel and Watkins exploit a defense focused in on McCoy.
