The Ohio State Buckeyes’ Sam Thompson had a sweet dunk on this play in the first half of the Ohio State-Arizona Round of 32 contest Saturday.
Not a lot went right for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the second half of their loss to the Arizona Wildcats in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, but they entered the half within one point.
And also with this play, a monstrous dunk from Sam Thompson, a senior forward from Chicago. It was a beautifully run offensive set from the Buckeyes, where D’Angelo Russell took a side screen and found Thompson on a backcut to the rim.
Arizona was slow on their defensive rotation, which allowed for the easy uncontested dunk for Thompson.
Thompson had 18 points on 6-11 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the foul line.
Meanwhile the freshman point guard Russell had six assists, including five in the first half. This was not the only play which featured a brilliant dime from Russell.
He also threw a no-look pass on a fastbreak where he threaded the needle of the defense like an NFL quarterback.
Russell is considered one of the best freshman in the nation, and perhaps a lottery pick in the NBA draft should he declare.
