Charles Barkley got a little confused when it came to giving compliments to players with current eligibility.

Part of the reason why people love Charles Barkley as an analyst is because he sometimes makes a fool of himself — knowingly and accidentally.

More from March Madness

March Madness is an odd time of the year because networks like CBS and TNT have their NBA people work on college basketball as well. Of course all of these guys do a lot of research on the subject themselves, but it’s hard to expect all of them to know everything about college basketball when that isn’t what they are normally asked to do.

With that said, it’s hard to believe that Barkley made this big of a mistake today during halftime of Kansas and Wichita State – which the latter went on to win.

The Alexander that Barkley is referring to is Kansas’ Cliff Alexander who hasn’t played since February 23rd due to an NCAA investigation on himself. The investigation is about Alexander possibly having a relationship with an NBA agent and receiving gifts for his family.

Oops.

You can even hear Kenny Smith start to laugh at Barkley’s ignorance at the end of the video.

These NBA guys coming over to the college scene for a little bit can get away with a lot of things and we won’t beat them up for it, but this was too big of a blunder on Barkley’s part. Be better, Chuck.
