The Chicago Bears hired new head coach John Fox earlier this offseason, and he believes that his team still has a lot of needs at this point.

John Fox and the Denver Broncos decided to part ways this offseason after another very successful season in 2014, and the Chicago Bears were more than happy to swoop in and hire him. He is a big step in the right direction for the Bears, but they came into the offseason with a lot of needs.

They were able to go out and sign both Antrel Rolle, Pernell McPhee and Eddie Royal this season, but Fox still thinks the team has a lot of needs left to fill.

“We have a lot of needs,” Fox said. “There are still a lot of green rectangles on a board. There are still two pools of players. There are still a lot of guys left in (secondary) free agency, which I prefer dealing with anyways, not the jump-out-in-front (signings). When you get it going good, you don’t have to do that.”

Basically Fox is saying that the Bears are trying to go out and find good deals in the second tier of free agency. There have been quite a few rumors about quarterback Jay Cutler being on the trade block so far this offseason, but those rumors don’t appear likely to become reality. Fox has quite a bit of talent, but the Bears are coming off of a completely disastrous season in 2014.

It will be interesting to see what else the Bears add this offseason. They certainly need to do a lot in order to catch up in their division with the Green Bay Packers, who retained both of their high profile free agents this offseason. Detroit took a step back by losing Ndamukong Suh, but they were able to acquire Haloti Ngata to replace him.

Chicago appears to be in a battle with the Vikings for the third and fourth NFC North positions once again. Trading star wide receiver Brandon Marshall was necessary, but it will hurt them as well.

Fox has taken on a bit of a rebuilding project in Chicago, and Bears fans are not known for being very patient. There is a chance that they can right the ship this season and get back into playoff contention, but at this point in time that doesn’t seem extremely likely. That being said, Fox is a huge upgrade over Marc Trestman, and will make the most of what he has.
