Matt Every won his second straight Arnold Palmer Invitational after defeating Henrik Stenson.
Matt Every is a quiet guy on the PGA Tour. He’s been playing here and there since he turned pro in 2006, but he’s only played full seasons in the last three years. Last year, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Matt Every nabbed his first PGA Tour victory and won over $1 million after a 13-under total defeated Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott. This year, Matt Every won the Arnold Palmer again with a 19-under finish to get passed Henrik Stenson.

Matt Every was down three strokes behind Swedish leader Henrik Stenson going into the final day at 13-under behind Stenson’s 16-under par. But Every surged on Sunday, shooting a 6-under par final round to repeat as champion.
Every had a bogey on the first hole Sunday, but that was no concern after he added four birdies on the front nine and three more birdies on the back nine including a birdie on the 18th hole to surge past Henrik Stenson who had a bogey at the 15th hole and three straight pars to end his round.
With the win, Matt Every earned a bid to The Masters at Augusta National in three weeks, something he wouldn’t have gotten without a victory. Every has played in 10 events now this season and has missed the cut twice and hasn’t had a top 25 finish until Sunday. He was only the second player in 20 years to have four consecutive rounds in the 60’s at the Arnold Palmer Invitational (68, 66, 69, 66).
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy finished T-11 after a 2-under round Sunday. After his 6-under par 2nd round it looked like we may see Rory win his first event of 2015, but his 3-under in the next two rounds didn’t allow him to advance up the leaderboard.
Henrik Stenson now has a top-5 finish in his last three straight and only PGA Tour events in 2015 so far after fourth place finishes in the last two weeks and a second place on Sunday. Stenson has been extremely consistent, look for him to be an early favorite to win the first major of the year at Augusta National in three short weeks.
