The New Orleans Saints deny that there’s any consideration of trading quarterback Drew Brees.

Ever since the trade of tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seahawks, it became popular speculation that no one on the Saints was safe from a trade. That often included Drew Brees, believe it or not. The thought was that the Saints have a dire cap situation and maybe they just wanted to launch into full rebuilding mode.

Not so, the Saints front office said on Monday, according to a story by NFL.com. General manager Mickey Loomis emphatically denied that there were any thoughts or plans to trade Brees. Loomis said that anyone thinking the Saints are going to trade Brees are just plain wrong.

It’s true that Brees isn’t coming off his best NFL season, but it’s not like it was horrible. He still had a pass completion rate of 69.2 percent and passed for a total of 4,952 yards. However, some of the Saints’ moves thus far hint at the idea that they might be trying to get their ground game to emerge and take some of the workload from Brees.

To that end they traded Graham and receiver Kenny Stills, while re-signing running back Mark Ingram and adding C.J. Spiller to the mix in the backfield. But the Saints aren’t planning to start over with a young quarterback.

Loomis also denied that the Saints were in cap jail and that it was just a year to year problem to deal with. The Saints recent moves did put them just slightly under the $143.2 million cap, but it’s still going to be hard for them to pick up much in free agency, so that leaves the draft.

Just know they won’t be doing it without Drew Brees.
