Report: JaVale McGee still wants to play for contender
After being waived by the Philadelphia 76ers, center JaVale McGee still wants to sign with a contender
When Philadelphia acquired JaVale McGee at the trade deadline, it didn’t make much sense for McGee to stay in Philadelphia. The 76ers are in a rebuilding phase, and the deal they completed by taking on McGee’s contract from Denver, was more about receiving a first-round pick in return.

After playing in Philadelphia for six games, the 76ers waived McGee on March 1, so that he could join a contending team.
McGee has still yet to sign with a contending team yet.
According to Yahoo’s Marc J. Spears, McGee, who hasn’t played in March, still wants to sign with a contending team, but his preference is to sign a contract for only the remainder of the season.
"Former Sixers center JaVale McGee still wants to play for a playoff contender, but his preference is to sign a deal only for the rest of this season, a source told Yahoo."
Signing a contract for the remainder of the season would ensure that McGee would become a free agent in July.
With the season nearly over and many teams just having between 11-15 games remaining, it will be interesting to see if a contending team gives McGee a contract for the remainder of the year.
The playoffs are right around the corner and team chemistry is a must. Teams could be hesitant to bringing in new pieces right now.
However, if there is a contending team in need of size, McGee could be the perfect piece for them. McGee offers incredible size at 7’0 and 270 pounds.
He’s also only played 28 games the last two seasons because of injuries and is probably a little fresher at this point then other centers a team might have on their roster.
JaVale McGee has yet to find a new home, and at this point if he wants to play for just the remainder of the season before free agency, he might be better suited off playing for anyone that offers him a contract.
