His NBA career is over for now, but Metta World Peace is still playing basketball. Although his days of hitting fans in the stands as Ron Artest are also over, World Peace is no stranger to the spotlight. Known for his excellent defense and his hilarious personality, World Peace is one of the more fun characters to follow in all of sports. At 35 years old, World Peace isn’t that old, but he will keep his professional basketball career alive, this time however in Italy.
According to Kurt Helin of Pro Basketball Talk, World Peace has signed with Pallacanestro Cantu.
However, the Italian club’s Twitter account was the first to break the news.
Cantu’s President, Anna Cremascoli, called the acquisition of World Peace “the coup of the century.” Cremascoli also talked about World Peace’s effect on the team for the rest of the season.
"“This could be the right shock needed to reinvigorate the team at a crucial time in our season,”"
World Peace is no longer than stud defender or that decent scoring option as he was in the NBA level, but he still can compete with the best of them in the international leagues. With the Sichuan Blue Whales in 2014, a China professional team, World Peace averaged 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals per game in just 15 appearances. European basketball doesn’t get a ton of attention in the states, as expected, but there are many players in the league that have NBA experience.
That being said, World Peace will be joining players like Christian Eyenga, Marcus Denmon, Marshon Brooks and even 2009’s sixth overall pick Jonny Flynn. It’s good to know that World Peace is still out there playing basketball.
