Report: Saints open to taking quarterback in draft
At the annual coaches breakfast, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said the team would be willing to take a quarterback if there is value there.
When the New Orleans Saints traded Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills, many began wondering if the team was going to begin a rebuild. The team acquired a first-round pick from Seattle and will now have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft.

With the bold moves that the New Orleans Saints are making, it has led many to speculate whether the team will trade quarterback Drew Brees.
Brees is 36-years-old and is near the end of his career, so it would make sense if the Saints tried to get something for him before he retired.
However, at the annual coaches breakfast in Phoenix, Saints head coach Sean Payton said Brees has a lot left, but the Saints could still take a quarterback in the draft.
With two first-round picks, is it possible that Saints are poised to make a move and trade up for Marcus Mariota? It seems there are several teams who could make a move for a quarterback in the draft.
They could also take a project quarterback in the later rounds to sit and learn behind Brees for a few years.
It’s also possible the team rides it out with Drew Brees and lets him retire in the city that he brought a Super Bowl to.
The Saints play in a very winnable NFC South and just barely missed the playoffs last season. Revamping the roster around Brees could allow the team to return to the playoffs.
Still, Payton’s comments are interesting and it shows that New Orleans is thinking about a successor for when the time comes that Brees is no longer there.
Whether it’s because they trade him or he finishes his career and retires in New Orleans remains to be seen.
