Miami Dolphins

Maybe the Miami Dolphins are content with Ryan Tannehill, but a year after what was supposed to be a make or break season for him, Tannehill’s future remains unclear.

Three years in, Tannehill has been…OK. He’s not terrible, he’s not great—he’s just OK. He makes some horrible decisions, but can move the chains and put both points and yards on the scoreboard. He’s improved at least a little each of his three years as well.

But those decisions always frustrate.

The team is talking to him about an extension per the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero, and they believe they “have the quarterback.”

That doesn’t mean they really have the answer though, and with the money they just sunk into Ndamukong Suh this offseason, they’re likely looking to make a run sooner than later. If they are wrong on Tannehill, it will set them back quite a bit.

If you think about it, of course they are looking to keep Tannehill. Even if he’s not Peyton Manning, he’s decent and in today’s NFL, the pickings are slim.

If Rivers is available though, that’s a huge upgrade over Tannehill and makes a big difference in the AFC East.

Consider that the New York Jets have a questionable quarterback situation, as do the Buffalo Bills. Both are teams relying on aging veterans who are backups and no more or young guys who have disappointed so far. Add Rivers to Miami and you’re lifting them above both of those teams offensively.

Of course, Rivers isn’t closing the ‘Tom Brady’ gap completely but it puts the Dolphins in a much better situation and gives them more than a puncher’s chance at the division title, and an even greater chance to make the playoffs as a Wild Card.

The Dolphins made a big splash with Suh this offseason, but trading for Rivers could be the move to put them over the top.
