Adrian Peterson Rumors: San Diego Chargers unlikely to make a trade
By Josh Hill
The San Diego Chargers need a running back, but they’re unlikely to swing a trade for Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson.
Adrian Peterson continues to be a man without a home, even though it’s a willing position he’s put himself in. The Minnesota Vikings have stated they will not release him, despite the fact that Peterson has said he won’t play for the team ever again — or at least his agent has said that.
This has put the NFL into a whirlwind of wondering where Peterson will land, and the destinations continue to narrow for the former MVP. One landing spot that makes sense on paper are the San Diego Chargers. They need running back help and that’s something Peterson brings in perhaps the biggest way possible.
According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune though, while the Chargers are desperate for help at running back, they’re unlikely to swing a trade for Adrian Peterson.
"As the offseason continues, the scenario seems increasingly less plausible.Ben Dogra, Peterson’s agent, was dismissive Wednesday on the notion of a Chargers trade, citing the financial implications."
Peterson brings baggage with him, but he also brings age and risk. Outside of his legal issues, Peterson isn’t the young runner he was even a few years ago and he’s not getting any younger as time goes by. Peterson is still one of the best running backs in the game and is an X-factor.
But he’s not worth giving up your future for when there are running backs in the draft like Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon and others who can fill in for a lot longer — and at a musher cheaper price — that Adrian Peterson.
