Roman Reigns talks WrestleMania 31 main event, working with Paul Heyman

Just a few days before the biggest moment of his career, we sat down with WWE superstar Roman Reigns to talk WrestleMania 31 this Sunday

Without a shadow of a doubt, there is no other goal that a WWE superstar shoots for that holds more importance than being in the main event of WrestleMania with the chance to walk out the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. This Sunday night in Santa Clara, California, Roman Reigns will be the latest to get that opportunity.

It’s been a wild ride for the former Shield member, who is the winner of the 2015 Royal Rumble, a feat which ultimately placed him in the position that he is right now. He’s been one of the more polarizing WWE title challengers at WrestleMania that we’ve seen in quite some time, with some people being on board with him and others vehemently choosing to reject him.

Whatever the case, Roman Reigns has worked hard to earn this opportunity this Sunday night against the current champion Brock Lesnar, and he was nice enough to sit down with us just days away from that special moment and discuss a few topics.

FanSided: Roman, first of all thank you for the time during what is undoubtedly the craziest week of your life. Now, given the circumstances, this first question really is a priority: Just a few days out, has this all sunk in what you’re about to do? Are you fully prepared for what you’re going to walk into this Sunday night?

Roman Reigns: I am, I definitely am. At the same time, though, there’s a lot of different emotions that go along with that. When you really think about it, there’s no way to ever be really prepared because it’s such a hectic week. You just have to take it all in stride and enjoy every single moment that you can, especially Sunday night. This is the biggest gathering in sports entertainment and it’s certainly going to be special.

FS: Now of course, there’s a lot of attention being paid to the man you’ll be in the ring with on Sunday, Brock Lesnar, and maybe rightfully so. However, I’m a little more intrigued about how it’s been for you to work with Paul Heyman throughout all of this? He’s one of the best talkers in the history of the industry and he’s been very instrumental in this build thus far.

RR: Oh man, it’s been great working with Paul. You know, people ask me about our interactions with one another, as they’re not really the norm for a feud like this, but it’s a gray area. Characters aren’t the same these days as they were in the past. Paul has known me literally since I was a little kid. He’s watched me grow from then until now, and the opportunity to work with him in this situation has been tremendous. It’s a weird situation, yes, but it’s fun as well.

FS: Now you’re going into a situation this Sunday, being in the main event title match of WrestleMania, that a family member of yours knows all too well, The Rock. Aside from his run-in at the Royal Rumble, how supportive has he been throughout all this build for you.

RR: Rock has been great. Like you said, he’s been in this situation before and he’s just told me to enjoy every single moment, it’s such a cool experience. I mean, just think about all he’s done, it’s amazing. He’s just told me to enjoy the ride, man.

FS: Now as a former athlete (Reigns was a standout defensive tackle at Georgia Tech), music before you perform has to be a big part of your routine. Now this match with Lesnar is going to one of the more physical bouts that you’ve ever had in your career and definitely the stiffest. That said, is there any specific genre of music you’re going to throw on your Beats headphones in the back to get you ready for the brawl?

RR: You know, man, I’m an emotional music listener. I’ll usually throw on some rock or rap, but you’ll probably be surprised to know that I sometimes like to listen to Bob Marley before I go out there. But as far as what I’ll listen to on Sunday before I get in the ring with Brock, I really haven’t decided that, that’s a really good question.

FS: Again, Roman, thanks for the time here on what has been an insane week, now tell us a little about this venture that you have going with Snickers, as your popularity continues to soar.

RR: I’m so proud to be partnered with Snickers for this, it’s been an incredible experience. Snickers is asking the “Who are you when you’re hungry?” question and fans can upload photos or videos of themselves being hungry to the Snickers Facebook page or on Snickers.com between now and April 17. What’s also pretty cool is they can access the “Why are you hungry?” meme generator, where they can see their alter ego. That’s what we do here and I’m so proud to be partnered with them.

WrestleMania 31 will be taking place this Sunday night inside Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, and the action begins at 7 PM ET.
