Tennessee fires head basketball coach Donnie Tyndall
Tennessee basketball coach Donnie Tyndall won’t be returning to the school next season according to a report.
Tennessee basketball head coach Donnie Tyndall is under investigation by the NCAA after the program he ran at Southern Mississippi from 2012-2014. The NCAA was to speak with Tennessee on Thursday about the allegations against Tyndall according to Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.

It looks like that conversation didn’t go very well and Tyndall was about to get hit with a huge NCAA penalty because Parrish reported Friday morning that Tyndall will not be returning to coach Tennessee men’s basketball next season, most likely a result of what the NCAA told Tennessee.
Tennessee would have liked to keep Tyndall as their head coach even after a 16-16 season, but if the NCAA violations were too strong that they would be detrimental to Tennessee, it wasn’t about to be worth keeping Tyndall.
Tennessee men’s basketball went 16-16 this season, missing out on the NCAA Tournament after making the tournament in 2014.
Tennessee had a tough year but had notable wins against Butler and Arkansas during their struggling season under one and done head coach Tyndall.
The NCAA should be handing out Tyndall’s punishments soon and if they’re severe enough, he can probably expect to not get hired until his penalties are over. Tennessee should be giving an official announcements later today.
