This 5th grade girl can play with the boys (Video)

This 5th grade girl can dunk!

It is not normal to see a girl dunk a basketball, period. Much less in a game. Much less when she says 11-years-old and in fifth-grade. And much less four separate times in said game.

And hey what do you know! There’s video proof.

There are a few key details to keep in mind. First, the girls were playing on nine-foot rims. So while it is amazing to see a girl dunk a basketball in a game four times, the nine-foot rims slow the hype train slightly, and thankfully.

Two, she is probably a foot taller than all the other girls on the floor, and probably outweighs them by at least 30 pounds (and that’s probably a very low estimate).

Of course it is No. 35 in the video who is in question. She is Ashlyn Watkins. And she’s from South Carolina.

Whether she grows anymore or not we cannot be sure, though being in just fifth grade, it is likely she will. And as her body acclimates itself to her height and she becomes more coordinated, perhaps dunking on a 10-foot hoop will be a practical goal for Ms. Watkins.

If that happens, she could become quite the force in the women’s game some day. South Carolina, the No. 2 team in the country for much of this season would be a rational landing spot for her.

But she’s only in fifth grade. For now let’s just appreciate the young girl’s talents.
