The mural at the D.C. Metro stop was painted in 2007 shortly after Sean Taylor was shot and killed in Miami. The artist was a local graffiti artist going by the name of Cert. Earlier this week, the graffiti was painted over in a hastily scrawled, gray-scale message promoting a political blog. The message read “government has failed you, rebel and reform peacefully.” No one was happy about it in a city where Taylor has been revered for nearly a decade after his death.

Fortunately, three days later, the mural has been restored, according to Sporting News.  The mural actually looks even better than before thanks to a new yellow background and a new message that reads “D.C. loves you.” Check it out below.

The people in D.C. now have a special part of their community back and more than likely it will be watched a lot more carefully from now on. According to a report by the Washington Post, there is an unwritten code among graffiti artists not to touch one another’s work, and the artist known as CERT is as widely respected as they come. However, obviously not everyone follows this as the political scrawler proved.

Sean Taylor was a free safety for the Redskins who played between 2004 and 2007. He was murdered in November of 2007 by an armed intruder at his Florida home. Taylor had been in the house recovering from a football injury when he was shot. Four men were eventually charged in December of the same year with first degree murder among other charges.
