NBA Rumors: Nuggets to pursue Brook Lopez in free agency?
By Evan Massey
If Brooklyn Nets big man Brook Lopez chooses to opt out of his contract this coming offseason, the Denver Nuggets are going to be one of the teams interested in signing him.
Brook Lopez is without question one of the best big men in the NBA when he’s able to stay healthy, but that has been a major issue for him throughout his career. That being said, he has been figuring things out over the past couple of months and has been a huge presence for the Brooklyn Nets as they have been making a push towards the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

There is a chance that Lopez will test the free agent market this coming offseason with his opt-out clause, and the Denver Nuggets would be one of the teams that would pursue him if that does end up happening.
Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post talked about the possibility of the Nuggets pursuing Lopez in free agency in one of his columns.
"This is the Brook Lopez the Nuggets had eyes for leading up to the trade deadline — a deadly scorer on the block who blocks and alters shots on the defensive end. The Nets rebuffed all trade offers, but they could lose Lopez if he opts out of the final year of his contract this summer. Doing so would make him a coveted, unrestricted free agent, and the Nuggets could make another run at acquiring him if they’re able to clear the salary cap space needed to make that happen."
Lopez would be a huge pickup for them, and would help fix the issues that they have at the center position. He has averaged 16.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. His shooting percentage has also been solid at 50.4 percent from the floor overall.
Those numbers have improved throughout the month of March, in which Lopez has averaged 20.1 points, 8.8 assists and 1.9 blocks per game.
At 26 years old, Lopez would be a very hot commodity on the open market if he does decide to test free agency. He is a solid all-around center, and would pair very nicely with Kenneth Faried in Denver. The Nuggets may not have the type of money to spend that he will be looking for, but then again they might be able to make something work.
Denver won’t be the only team pursuing Lopez, but they would likely be one of the best fits that he could choose. They have a very good point guard in Ty Lawson, a fellow front-court running mate in Faried and a decent roster built around them. Lopez could be exactly the missing piece that they need.
