Mike Napoli hits home run, breaks bat in half (Video)

Red Sox first baseman hit a home run while leaving most of his bat in the middle of the infield.
Sometimes in baseball you really don’t need your whole bat to hit a home run, just the sweet spot. Slugger Mike Napoli of the Boston Red Sox demonstrated this during this evenings’ spring training game against the Minnesota Twins.
On Monday night against the Twins, Napoli blasted a ball into the upper-deck in left center field, but that wasn’t what made this home run special. The hit sawed off the top half of his bat and caused it to fly in-between second and third base. The home run came off Brian Duensing, and is Napoli’s forth home run of spring training.
This home run helped ignite Boston’s offense as they have a seven run lead going into the fifth inning. This Spring the Red Sox are 13-10 overall with six games left before opening against the Philadelphia Phillies on April, 6.
This could have been a scary situation, as anytime a bat breaks in half and splinters int the field of play, it’s never a safe situation. But no one was hurt, which transforms this from being scary to being just downright amazing. Physics be damned, this home run was a gift from the baseball gods.
