Here is a new public service announcement: don’t get in the way of Russell Westbrook when he’s going up for an alley-oop dunk (yes, even if you’re his teammate).
Do you remember when Marcus Lee of the Kentucky Wildcats dunked on one of his teammates in the Sweet 16 the other day? It looks like Westbrook did, because he made a very similar play Sunday night as his Oklahoma City Thunder took on the Phoenix Suns.
Westbrook is one fast man, and he’s so fast that Enes Kanter never even saw him flying by past him. Poor ol’ Kanter just thought the alley-oop pass was for him to throw down. Maybe another day, Kanter.
Dunk or no dunk, this game is actually extremely important for both teams. The playoffs are only about two weeks away as the regular season is coming to a quick end, and the Thunder and Suns have work to do before that time comes. Oklahoma City currently has a two-game lead for the 8-seed in the West, and the Suns are three-games back from the Thunder and the playoffs. While making the playoffs might seem like too big of a task for the Suns at this point, the Thunder could easily fall out of the last spot if they don’t finish the season strong.
