Jameis Winston: ‘I’m best player in the draft,’ Bucs should take me
By Ryan Ratty
At Florida State’s Pro Day, Jameis Winston said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who hold the first pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, should select him because he is the best.
Blessed with a strong arm, intangible intelligence, and a winning demeanor, Jameis Winston really has all of the traits to be the No. 1 pick in most drafts.
Granted, Winston is coming into the NFL with a ton of baggage, but the fact of the matter is that he has potential to be one of the better quarterbacks at the professional level. In need of a new quarterback, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been rumored to Florida State‘s Winston and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota. Many have different opinions, but one person who believes Winston should go first overall is Winston himself.
After his performance at Florida State’s Pro Day, Winston addressed the media and proclaimed that he should go No. 1 overall. When asked why the Bucs should select first overall in the draft, Winston responded short and sweet like this:
"“Because I’m the best player in the draft,”"

At the event, Winston threw 102 passes, even though the regular amount for a quarterback at a pro day is 60-70 passes. Before he started throwing, Winston introduce all of his receivers to the scouts and coaches that were present for the event. Florida State has loved Winston over the past few years because of his demeanor and his charisma, this is just another reason why.
Although there is a high chance of him going first overall, Winston went on to say that there is a high chance he will not attend the draft.
"“My grandmother, she can’t travel, she has Type 2 diabetes and has multiple surgeries and I want her to be there,” Winston told NFL Network. “I want the people who I’ve been with Day 1 to be around me and enjoy this moment. It’s a celebration to me and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. We really haven’t made that decision yet. There’s been a lot of pressure on people trying to get me to come and make the draft.”"
Even if Winston doesn’t attend the draft, it needs to be said that the Bucs would be getting a promising player if they draft Winston. There are complaints about his attitude off the field, but on the field, there aren’t many quarterbacks at his position in the past few years that are better than him. If he can keep his head on straight, Winston could be one of the top quarterbacks in the league in a few seasons.
