Tony Romo saves Cowboys $13 million with contract restructure
By Evan Massey
Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo saved the team $13 million in cap room by agreeing to a contract restructure.
Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys came through with a huge season in 2014, and ended up winning the NFC East division and their first playoff game against the Detroit Lions. They were looking to take the next step forward this season, but unfortunately ended up losing DeMarco Murray in free agency to their division rival Philadelphia Eagles.
According to a report from Rand Getlin, the Cowboys and Romo have agreed to a new contract restructure that will save the team $13 million in cap room.
Whether or not this move is in order to clear up some cap space for the Cowboys to make another move or two is not known at this point in time. It could very well be to open up room for Adrian Peterson via trade, but the Minnesota Vikings are hoping to keep him on the roster rather than trading him. Either way, this is a big move for them and it opens up quite a few different possibilities.

Romo ended up throwing for 3,705 yards, 34 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. It was a great bounce back season for the Cowboys, and it has gotten them very excited for the 2015 season.
There is no question that Murray made things easier on Romo, but he still made some big plays throughout the course of the season. His leadership ability was an impressive all-around throughout the season, and he’ll be just fine even without his superstar running back. Dez Bryant is coming back, and the Cowboys’ offense line will help make any running back that they bring in successful.
It will be interesting to see what type of numbers Romo puts up during the 2015 season. He is still trying to remove the reputation that he has of being an unsuccessful quarterback when it comes to big games and the playoffs.
Being able to replicate the type of success that the Cowboys had last season in 2015 without Murray would be a big step in the right direction for Romo. He definitely has the type of talent in order to do that, and Cowboys fans can expect another successful season this coming year. Doing this type of thing also shows how much of a team player Romo is.
Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with the Cowboys now that they have this type of money available. Peterson would be nice, but there are quite a few different options for them.
