Miami Marlins troll Chicago Cubs with Back to the Future Campaign
The Miami Marlins have no intention of letting the future as dictated by Back to the Future come true.
One October 1, 2015, the Chicago Cubs will defeat Miami to win their first World Series since 1908. Well, at least according to the 1989 sequel, Back to the Future II.
In that fictional World Series, the Cubs triumphed over an unnamed Miami team, sweeping the series in a best of 9 series. Miami, at least as far as the movie was concerned, had an alligator for a mascot, instead of the Marlin. Of course, Miami didn’t become a Major League franchise until 1993, but it was a worthy guess. And let’s not even call into question the fact that the Marlins and Cubs both play in the National League and as such, are unable to meet in a World Series, ever.

Now, as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of the first Back to the Future, many teams across both the major and minor leagues are celebrating with promotions tied to the movies, including scheduled appearances for the famed DeLorean time machine used by Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
Naturally, the Miami Marlins are taking things just a bit further.
The Marlins have announced a series of season long promotions meant to not only tie into the film franchise, but to also change their destiny and hopefully bring home the team’s third World Series ring. Per Marlins fansite, On Cloud Conine, the promotions are set as follows:
– April 5, 2015
The Marlins will retroactively dedicate their team’s social media to review the team’s very first game, played on April 5, 1993. The team will give play-by-play of the game held 22 years ago to the day when Charlie Hough delivered the first pitch in Marlins history.
– June 1-3, 2015
The Marlins will play host to the Chicago Cubs in what is being aptly titled the “Rewrite the Future Series”. At the game, they will present fans with the “2015 American League Champion” t-shirts with a hashtag of #RewriteTheFuture imprinted on the back, as shown below.
– September 25, 2015
To top it all off, the Marlins will give out a very special bobblehead, plopping Marlins mascot Billy The Marlin in a letter jacket, hightops, and on a hoverboard for a special giveaway. Oh, and the bobblehead’s name? Billy McFly of course.
To top everything off, the Marlins will donate a portion of the proceeds from the game to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Needless to say, they are doing more than one thing to help change the future, including contributing to the effort to find a cure for Parkinsons Disease.
So while a World Series win would be sweet for the Marlins, the real winner here will be the fans and the efforts to find a cure.
