Kentucky head coach John Calipari has been bestowed the honor of being named the 2015 AP Coach of the Year

The Kentucky Wildcats are in the midst of history right now, just one day before their Final Four showdown with the Wisconsin Badgers, and their head coach, John Calipari, has been recognized rightly for that effort.

During the Final Four press conference on Friday in Indianapolis, it was revealed that Calipari has been named the 2014-15 AP Coach of the Year.

Make no mistake about it, people will try to downplay this decision because of the stacked roster that John Calipari is in possession of this season, but that still doesn’t make his coaching efforts any less incredible. Currently 38-0 heading into the Final Four this weekend, it’s a tough task for anyone to keep a team focused for an entire season and not drop a game. Not one…so far. There were times this season where their backs were against the wall and Cal was the one that kept these young men together.

With players such as the Harrison Twins, Andrew and Aaron, as well as Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns, this is one of the better college basketball teams that we have seen in the history of the great game of college basketball. It’s no surprise, really, that they have a legitimate shot at going 40-0, and a good chunk of that success falls on the head coach, John Calipari, for constantly getting these stars to play as one unit.

Now what may be even more surprising about this announcement on Friday is the fact that this is the first time in his career that Calipari has been named the best college basketball coach for a given season by the Associated Press. He’s pulled off a lot of impressive coaching jobs in his career, not just at Kentucky, but it’s hard to ignore a coach that’s guiding his team to an undefeated, national championship campaign.

Now all that’s left for Calipari to do is to win two more games, and he’ll etch his name into college basketball history that much more.
