Fantasy Basketball: Is Stephen Curry The Fantasy MVP?
By Dave Fuqua
Is Stephen Curry the fantasy basketball MVP?
Stephen Curry has recently been on fire and is playing for the team with the best record in the NBA. That put him in the lead of some recent fan polls for the league MVP. However is that enough to put him in the lead if there was a fantasy basketball MVP.

The way I see it right now there are probably about six or seven legit fantasy MVP candidates. For me they include Russell Westbrook, Stephen Curry, James Harden, DeMarcus Cousins, LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Here is the thing for me here I want to pick a fantasy MVP based on how things seemed to me this year and that involves something that is hard to do. Not looking up facts and whatnot from the season. I made myself a promise when I decided to do some posts about who my fantasy MVP was that I would not look up games missed and so forth.
As I remember the season I can rule out Anthony Davis because if my memory served me correctly he missed two mildly lengthy stints during the season which very well could have cost his owners a few regular season games.
LeBron James has had a pretty good season, but for me he has been off that pace that he has set for himself. Early on during the season he was certainly not himself , but since the All-Star Break he has delivered more like we expect him to. The thing about an MVP award is shouldn’t it be for someone who has been his team’s most valuable player all season?
DeMarcus Cousins is still somewhat of a roller coaster to ride as a fantasy player. He also missed a lengthy period this season with that illness. Cousins also could wind up with a two to four technical week and sit out a game and kill his owners in championship week.
So far that leaves us with James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry. In most of my leagues the scoring of the three has is go in this order: Westbrook, Harden and Curry. Now as I promised myself for these early articles I want to strictly go without actually looking at how many games a player has missed. I mean when fans vote for the NBA All-Star Game they don’t do any research. If I am going by memory here I feel like Curry has been the most reliable and most dependable player in the league. Curry has done his thing pretty much all season and for me that makes him my MVP for real basketball and for fantasy basketball. I have to admit I may be swayed a bit because to me he is the most exciting and fun player to watch, but I am not a biased Warriors’ fan.
