Spieth moved to -14 overall for the tournament, which is good enough for first heading into Sundayās final round.
He has a trio of golfers one stroke behind him, with Austin Cook, Scott Piercy and Johnson Wagner all just one shot off the lead at -13.
Spiethās third-round got off to a fast start as he birdied a par-4 on the first hole. Spieth would also birdie 6, 10, 11, 13 and 16.
So far through three rounds, Spieth has had 16 birdies to go along with 36 pars and two bogeys.
Phil Mickelson, who looked to have a strong chance at taking the tournament lead Saturday, shot a +3 on the day and dropped to -8 overall. After threatening for the lead, Mickelson, now sits in a tie for 18th overall.
The story however, is Spieth who has shot remarkably well over the last month.
Spieth finished second at the Texas Open, and won the Valspar Championship Tournament just two weeks before that.
Spieth is getting hot right before the beginning of the Masters next week, where he almost won the tournament and finished tied for second behind Bubba Watson.
If Spieth can hold on for the victory in Houston Sunday, he will have some serious momentum heading into Augusta.
