Based on what he did Monday, a sophomore slump doesn’t seem to be in the cards for Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu.
Abreu absolutely crushed a fastball from Yordano Ventura for his first home run of the year during Chicago’s season-opener against the Kansas City Royals.
Take a look at Abreu’s seventh-inning home run below:
From an individual production standpoint, Abreu’s certainly starting the year off on the right foot with that bomb.
However, outside of Abreu’s big home run, the White Sox didn’t do very much right on Monday and were blown out by the Royals.
Still, it’s a positive sign for the White Sox that their slugger seems to be picking up right where he left off last season. Abreu batted .317, clubbed 36 home runs and posted 107 RBI en route to Rookie of the Year and Silver Slugger honors in 2014.
The White Sox signed Abreu to a six-year, $68 million in 2013.
