A look at Paul George’s value for 2015-2016

Paul George made his much-anticipated return to the court yesterday against the Miami Heat. In that return the newly nicknamed PG-13 scored 13 points to match his new number and nickname. PG-13 also added in two steals, two assists and two rebounds. I take it as a plus that PG was able to play 15 minutes in his return and be as productive as he was. The Pacers will certainly be happy to have the scoring punch that he brings back to the lineup as that is something they have sorely missed all year.

PG-13 should come back next year at full strength and could likely be a top 20 pick depending on how he finishes out this season. While his injury was bad there should be no real big likelihood that he sustains the same injury going forward and is a very safe bet to return to full health and see no ill effects from this injury.

When looking at how players have finished this season and who could be coming up for the draft for next season I am relatively certain that I would at the very least take Paul George in my top 20 and completely expect him to return that value and possibly even top 10 value. For those of you in keeper and dynasty leagues who were savvy enough to add him to your team at a discounted rate will be reaping the rewards in this final week if you are still alive and for next season.

With five games left for the Pacers, George has a chance to help his team overtake the Celtics for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and earn a shot to take on the Hawks in the playoffs. I would think that the Pacers have a pretty good shot at winding up as the eight seed and moving on to face the Hawks.

If you are in keeper leagues or dynasty leagues that allow aff-season trading you can possibly try to buy on Paul George, but I would think that even the 15 minutes he logged yesterday will completely close any kind of buy-low window and you will very likely be paying close to full price to acquire George’s services. Considering however that I think he should wind up as a top-tier fantasy player next year it may be worth a shot to see what the owner will consider. You could possibly unload an older player who may be in the same tier as PG-13 and come out a little bit ahead in the deal. You could also be in the position where you can send a two for one kind of deal where you include a hot up and coming type of player. I always love acquiring top-tier players in deals like that.
