J.D. Martinez hit the first home run of the 2015 MLB season as he launched a solo shot to give the Detroit Tigers an early lead.
The first long ball of the MLB season came from Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez who hit a home run to right-center field in the bottom of the second inning against the Minnesota Twins.

Martinez had a breakout season last year for the Tigers after beginning the season in the minor leagues and proved to be one of the bigger surprised of the 2014 season.
He was a fantasy baseball darling for those who picked him up off the waiver wire and produced career-highs across the board. Martinez hit .315 with 23 home runs and 76 RBI in 123 games in his first season with the Tigers after spending the first three years of his career with the Houston Astros.
If Martinez can build off his breakout season and come into his own at 27 years old, the Tigers will have a lineup that should put serious fear into the pitching staffs of the American League Central.
With Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez mainstays in the middle of the lineup, a potential 30 HR, 90-plus RBI season from Martinez could be the extra boost the team needs to win another Central division title.
There will be plenty more home runs hit this year, but only J.D. Martinez can say he was the first player to hit a home run in the 2015 season.
So file that nugget of information in the back of your brains you trivia buffs.
